Graduate Program in Portuguese Language and Literatures
The Graduate Program in Portuguese Language and Literatures at PUC Minas started in 1989. It is recognized nationwide and offers two research areas:
"Linguistics and Portuguese" and "Lusophone Literatures", both with MA and PhD courses.
The department holds distinct faculty members, research lines, projects, and curricular organization, with great interaction among them, thus allowing mobility and intersection between the two areas. The program values dialogue, namely, the inter-area between Linguistics and Literature, in order to promote research and teaching focused mainly on basic education. That requires thoughtful treatment of language as a study object, approached simultaneously by linguistic and literary aspects.
Since its implementation, the program has received positive ratings from Capes and maintained a grade 5 in the 2001-2003, 2004-2006, 2007-2009, and 2010-2012 triennia. It has been granted three national-level awards, from theses produced: two Capes Awards for Best Dissertation (2007 and 2008) and Anpoll Dissertation Award (2004).
