Computer Science

Data Analysis, Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval

The great evolution of computer technology over the last few years has produced computers with greater processing speed and greater data storage capacity. This same technological evolution has also made evident our difficulty in dealing efficiently with the large volumes of data that we have accumulated. As a result, our effective capacity to generate information and knowledge from this growing volume of data does not seem to have increased at the same pace as technological evolution.

Professors:

  • Cristiane Neri Nobre
  • Alexei Manso Corrêa Machado
  • Luis Enrique Zárate
  • Petr Iakovlevitch Ekel
  • Silvio Jamil Ferzoli Guimarães
  • Wladmir Cardoso Brandão
  • Zenilton Kleber Gonçalves do Patrocínio Júnior

Software Engineering and Computer Systems

In a distributed computing environment, the main attraction is the flexibility and scalability, obtained by the integration of heterogeneous computers in the same system without restrictions regarding their physical location. The challenge lies in the development of software and computer systems that meet the demand for processing and energy efficiency, mainly due to the large volume of data that is available and generated at a speed that is constantly growing.

Professors:

  • Carlos Augusto Paiva da Silva Martins
  • Fátima de Lima Procópio Duarte Figueiredo
  • Henrique Cota de Freitas
  • Humberto Torres Marques Neto
  • Lucila Ishitani
  • Mark Alan Junho Song
